  • Two-sided single angle connection to sloped girder
    • 1. “Rotation” of filler beam limitations, for single angle, double angle and shear plate connectionshould be maximum from vertical of 1:12 (4.76 degrees rotation). This one shown below is toomuch. Should be kicked out with error message saying “Filler beam rotations greater than 1:12 slope from vertical not yet functional in Qnect.”QNT-8495
    • “Rotation” of girder can be whatever is in the model, though as stated above, filler beam should be limited to 1:12 (4.76 degrees).

QuickQnect® Release Notes: June 2023

By Jeff Hausthor on Aug 24, 2023 12:21:03 PM

Notable software updates from June '23:

  • Get report data for Connection Engineer - Enhancement for in-model-review tool.
  • In model review tool - report to be based on GUID
  • Top Elevation for In model review tool
  • Span change of secondary ignored for duplicate check if not using UDL.  So when a change is made to the span with a cut or a small move, we will ignore that change if the force was not calculated with UDL (otherwise the span change changes the force), so when we re-engineer , the customer is more likely to receive the same connection code.
  • Qnect Station Fabrication - ability to identify if each beam uses two station or one station fabrication. (see below)
    QNT-7690
  • Change side of a CJP weld prep at Shear Plate to Column Web connection - Beam to Column Web Extended Shear Plate connection should always have CJP weld prep facing the beam web.
  • VBSA - Adjust gage at angle legs <5"
    • For in-plane angle legs >= 5” we will continue to use Table 1-7A for gage to bolt from heel as we do today: gage = max(standard gage “g” from Table 1-7A, min edge dist, kdet + c3, thickness + c1)
    • For in-plane angle legs < 5” we will update to use the following formula for gage to bolt from heel. For example with 0.75 bolts as currently done in 4x4 shown below= 2.5, update to:
    • gage = max(0.5 * in-plane edge, min edge dist, kdet + c3, thickness + c1) =max(0.5*4, 1.0, 0.75+0.75, 0.375+1.1875) = 2.
  • Remove support for Tekla 21.1 & 2016i
  • Set to Extended Shear Plate when need doubler and setback at beam is near support flange toe - This occurs at skewed beam to beam Shear Plate connections.
    • There are cases when a skewed beam has a setback distance such that the end of beam is near a flange toe (as shown on the picture).  Currently in such cases we switch to EXTENDED setback Shear Plate connection.  We modified this condition to only switch to EXTENDED setback if a beam needs reinforcement (doubler) plate and is 1 in. (25 mm) in orthogonal direction from support girder flange toe.

Press Release: Gustafson joins Qnect

By Jef Sharp on Oct 5, 2022 4:51:42 PM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. October 5, 2022
Michael Gustafson joins the team at Qnect LLC of Hadley MA. as Vice President of Strategy and Business Development

“It’s all about engineering efficiency in the digital age,” says Michael Gustafson. As Product Manager at Trimble and Industry Strategy Manager at Autodesk, Michael has been identifying and directing new technologies for 17 years. “I felt that I needed to take on a senior leadership role with a team that can make a bigger impact in construction, and for the planet. The software solution that Qnect has built has me energized to execute a vision that optimizes for both savings and carbon footprint of new buildings. What they have achieved has opened my eyes to a massive market imperative.”

Michael cut his teeth as a structural engineer working with the industry’s best at Ellerbe Becket (now AECOM), designing a variety of structures. While earning his MBA, he led marketing efforts as a regional engineer with AISC (American Institute for Steel Construction) where he learned about the value of the steel fabricator. At Tekla and Autodesk, Michael forged strategy for structural analysis, design, detailing and fabrication and saw first-hand how technology can help push smart digital transformation.

After studying Qnect, Michael recognized a promising global solution to make engineering more efficient. Qnect’s software has proven its ability to trim carbon emissions while lowering risk and saving time and cost on steel construction. Gustafson’s interest was also piqued by Qnect’s unparalleled, patented optimization technology and its significant impact on projects.

As I look across the globe, the industry is expecting much more from tech providers to increase productivity and reduce material waste and carbon. The global construction market will surely benefit from the data Qnect generates to make smarter design decisions, not just for buildings in North America but across Europe and beyond, says Gustafson.

Qnect’s CEO, Jef Sharp says, “We are thrilled to welcome Michael Gustafson to the Qnect leadership team. Michael has a unique skill set that includes engineering, software, and a global perspective of the design, detailing and fabrication tech sectors. His vision is perfectly in line with where Qnect is headed. Great people make great companies.”
