SA VB: Check/Fix gusset plate block shear calculations hole names and values
  • Gusset Strength Calcs:
  • Gusset Plate Strength Calculations:
  • Potential Minimum Connection Length, Lconn: 21.00 in.
  • Gusset Thickness, tgus: 0.31 in.
  • Beam Web Thickness, twbm: 0.75 in.

Check Horizontal Block Shear

Using AISC 15th Ed. Equation J4-5
Block Shear = {(phi) * ((0.6 * Fu * Anv) + (Ubs * Fu * Ant))} <= {(phi) * ((0.6 * Fy * Agv) + (Ubs * Fu * Ant))}

Block 1:
Gross Shear Length = 2 * (Lconn + Levgus) = 2 * (21.00 + 1.00) = 44.00 in.
Net Shear Length = Gross Shear Length - 2 * ((#rows - 0.5) * (hwang + 1/16)) = 44.00 - 2 * ((8 - 0.5) * (0.81 + 0.06)) = 30.88 in.
Gross Tension Length = (#cols - 1) * g2 = (2 - 1) * 2.50 = 2.50 in.
Net Tension Length = Gross Tension Length - (#col - 1) * (hhang + 1/16) = 2.50 - (2 - 1) * (0.81 + 0.06) = 1.62 in.
1. (phi) * [material thickness] * ((0.60 * Fugus* [net shear length]) + (Ubs * Fugus * [net tension length]))
    = 0.75 * 0.31 * ((0.60 * 65.00 * 30.88) + (1.00 * 65.00 * 1.62)) = 306.98 kips
2. (phi) * [material thickness] * ((0.60 * Fygus * [gross shear length]) + (Ubs * Fugus * [net tension length]))
    = 0.75 * 0.31 * ((0.60 * 50.00 * 44.00) + (1.00 * 65.00 * 1.62)) = 334.14 kips
Block Shear = 306.98 kips
306.98 kips >= Pbrace uplt = 300.00 kips (OK)

Here what we have now is "hwang" and "hhang" - however it should be “hwgus” and “hhgus”

Import-ready status and get all session data to Desktop needs to use same SQL.  This resolves the issue with seeing this error message:

QNT-8949

EngineeredGroups: Fix VB grouping process - Vertical Brace connections are typically unique.  We will not group them with other VB connections with Engineered Groups.

  • Qnect Plate profile has extra decimal
    This has been resolved:
    • The API profile is converted into millimeters and the values are as follows.
    • In Tekla the plate is shown in the API value as "PL9.525"
    • But in Qnect it is shown as "PL9.5250"
    • The value of the profile is not matching in the 2 cases and Tekla recognize them as 2 different plates
    • This was causing part numbering issues and will no longer be different between Qnect connections and manual connections.
